DEARBORN — A Detroit woman was arrested Jan. 20 after she tried to leave Walmart, 5851 Mercury Drive, in an Uber with bags of merchandise for which she did not render payment.
The car, a silver Ford Escape, was subject to a traffic stop on westbound Ford Road near the Southfield Freeway. The passenger matched the description provided by loss prevention personnel.
She had bags of Walmart merchandise in the trunk of the car for which she did not have a receipt.
The Uber driver was released, and the passenger and merchandise were taken into custody. The items, collectively valued at $288, were returned to the store. The woman was banned from Walmart and cited for larceny.
Loss prevention personnel said they would forward store surveillance camera footage to the police department.
