RIVERVIEW — A Riverview woman reported April 16 that an identity thief had used her Social Security number to file a tax return, ostensibly to gain access to a tax refund.
She said she had tried repeatedly to file her taxes using Turbo Tax, but both her state and federal tax returns were rejected three times, with an error code stating that her SSN had already been used to file a 2026 tax return.
The IRS verified that the woman’s tax return had been fraudulently filed by an unknown party, and her account was flagged.
The woman said her bank accounts were secure. She was advised to monitor her accounts for any suspicious activity.
