LINCOLN PARK – The City Council approved the draft of a cost-sharing agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation to reconstruct the Harrison Boulevard bridge over the south branch of the Ecorse River.
Public Works Director John Kozuh said that for Phase 3 of the Local Bridge Bundle Program, cost sharing agreements are being used as a precaution in the event of cost overruns or higher than expected bids, due to limited Bridge Bundle Program funding available to cover additional costs.
He said state and federal funds would cover approximately $4.5 million, with the city covering the additional $100,000 portion of the estimated $4.6 million total project cost.
“The amounts shown in the draft agreement are preliminary and may not need to be used,” Kozuh said. “To date, no local cost participation has been required for any of the Phase 3 projects.”
MDOT established the Local Bridge Bundling Program to address critical needs in the statewide local bridge network. If there are sufficient funds available in the program budget following the completion of all program work, MDOT may, as allowed by law, issue credits to the city.
