MELVINDALE — The sentencing date for Michael Lopez, 44, of Southfield, who was found guilty in the homicide of Melvindale Police Cpl. Mohamed Said, has been changed to 9 a.m. June 5, two weeks after the original May 22 date.
Lopez will appear in front of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Bridget Hathaway for sentencing after being found guilty April 28 for the July 21, 2024, homicide of Said, during which he fired a handgun at the officer during a foot chase. Among other charges, he faces life in prison for the murder of a police officer.
