Sunshine favors the opening day of the annual Wyandotte Street Art Fair July 8 on Biddle Avenue.

WYANDOTTE – The 65th annual Wyandotte Street Art fair opened July 8 to sunshine as the heat wave receded, welcoming guests to stroll down Biddle Avenue to peruse rows of booths.
More than 300 booths filled the fair, showcasing arts, culture, entertainment and delicious food options.
A mermaid sculpture by artist Keith Coleman of Taylor, donated by Wyandotte Industries and the Szpondowski family, makes its debut during the Wyandotte Street Art Fair on Biddle Avenue in Wyandotte.
The fair featured clothing, fiber, digital designs, metal work, sculpture, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, cartoons, photography, pottery, prints, drawings, leather work, wood designs, furniture and toys.
Sculptor Keith Coleman’s metallic mermaid made its debut in a fountain near Nanna’s Kitchen, surround by flowers and flags. His work, which include a bull near Merrill Lynch at Biddle Avenue and Oak Street and a bear at Wyandotte Roosevelt High School are familiar favorites around town.
A craft show displayed more creative work near the clock tower, while fair food offered many options, from thirst-quenching lemonade to cheese steaks, where the tantalizing aroma drew passersby to their stand.
The lemonade stands offered local non-profits a chance to earn money by manning the booths. Parking lots also provided a chance for local groups to raise revenue as well.
Wyandotte summer activities continue beyond the Street Art Fair, with live music, lawn games and children’s activities from 2 to 6 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 13 at First and Elm streets.
The city also offers outdoor movie nights every third Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. through Oct. 16 at the same site.
The Wyandotte Historical Museum offers a Patriots Pie and Ice Cream Social from 1 to 4 p.m. July 18 at the MacNichol House at 2610 Biddle Ave.
