TAYLOR — Taylor City Treasurer Nicone Dragone was scammed into paying $2,520 in Bitcoin to a caller June 25 who said they were from the Wayne County Sheriff’s office and that there was a warrant out for his arrest for missing jury duty.
The caller indicated that he needed to pay a $2,520 fine to get the arrest warrant lifted. Dragone then sent two Bitcoin transactions, one for $820 and one for $1,700, to the account provided.
He later determined he had been defrauded and filed a police report, with the Bitcoin transaction receipts included.
