Dearborn voters approve library millage

Incumbent Alabas Farhat won the Democratic primary to seek a second Michigan House term in November, and Dearborn voters approved the city’s library millage in the Aug. 4 primary election.
Dearborn voters renewed the library millage, with 15,891 voting in favor (75.47 percent), with 5,164 voters (24.53 percent) opposed.
In the 3rd state House District, Farhat won the Democratic primary with 8,208 votes (62.92 percent), with Hussein Berry in second place with 3,097 votes (23.74 percent) and Othman Ali Alaansi in third place with 1,680 votes (12.88 percent). Farhat will face Republican Gus Taraf, who was unopposed in the primary, in November.
Michigan’s 3rd House District covers part of Detroit, part of Dearborn and a portion of Melvindale.
In the 15th state House District, Jalal Abdallah won the Democratic primary with 8,371 votes (51.13 percent), with Gary Woronchak in second with 4,251 votes (25.97 percent) and Leslie Herrick in third with 3,691 votes (22.54 percent). Abdallah will face Republican Hassan H. Nehme, who ran unopposed in the primary, in November.
Michigan’s 15th House District represents Dearborn Heights and the west end of Dearborn.
In the Michigan 2nd Senate District, Democrat Abbas Alawieh won the primary with 23,722 votes (58.66 percent), with 15th District state House Rep. Erin Byrnes in second with 16,567 votes (40.96 percent). Alawieh will face Republican Harry Sawicki, who ran unopposed in the primary, in November.
Michigan’s 2nd Senate District includes all of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, along with parts of Allen Park and Detroit.
