TRENTON — A fraudulent state income tax filing was reported July 15, with a man stating that his wife had received a notification from the state of Michigan.

He said they file their taxes jointly, and she did not file a separate tax return. However, the state was now seeking restitution for a $6,010 income tax refund sent to the unknown fraudster.

The victims were given a police report number to forward to the state’s tax fraud department.
