DEARBORN – PEACE Park South, the third entry in the Park Equity and Access for Civic Engagement trifecta, is now open in the South End, with recreational activities for all ages.
The park, located at 1911 Salina Street, features two pickleball courts, a basketball court, a youth soccer field, a community garden and labyrinth, and areas to relax and reflect.
The recreational basketball court, for community play and league use, encourages an active lifestyle, teamwork and neighborhood engagement, while the junior soccer field, scaled and designed for younger athletes, creates a safe, accessible and welcoming environment while encouraging physical activity, teamwork and confidence building.
Pickleball, which appeals to all ages, including active seniors, is one of the fastest growing recreational sport trends in the country.
The PEACE Parks are part of Mayor Abdullah Hammoud’s plan to provide upgraded green spaces, community gathering spots and to improve neighborhood infrastructure.
The mayor said the three PEACE Parks represent almost $30 million in grant-funded investment.
Hammoud said PEACE Park South features seven inter-connected bioswales that manage stormwater sustainably by integrating underground systems to naturally filter and collect rainwater, which mitigates the risk of flooding and enhances the park’s ecological health and long-term environmental resilience.
The mayor said the garden walk is a peaceful retreat that features a landscaped labyrinth garden with native plantings, perennial blooms, topiary trees and formal hedges.
Hammoud said a central folly with granite seating and tables serves as a focal point for reflection and quiet connection.
