DEARBORN — A Detroit man who attempted to steal $330 worth of body wash and other items from Kroger, 15255 Michigan Avenue, on the morning of July 15 was taken into custody after a police drone tracked him until police officers arrived on the scene.
The man, who was wearing gray-colored clothing and carrying a Spiderman suitcase, was headed toward the bus stop at the southeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Greenfield Road.
When the man was approached by police officers, he appeared to have a seizure, and Dearborn Fire Rescue personnel were called to the scene to evaluate him. During the evaluation, stolen items were found concealed under his outer layer of clothing. Other allegedly stolen merchandise was found abandoned nearby.
A Kroger manager was given the stolen merchandise, from which a value was obtained, while a police officer rode with the man while he was transported by ambulance to Corewell Health Hospital in Dearborn.
A record check indicated that the man had a prior retail fraud conviction.
