LINCOLN PARK — An email purporting that a fraudulent purchase had been made using her PayPal account directed a woman to call a provided phone number, with a respondent who then tricked her into putting her phone screen into sharing mode, which allowed him to use the Cash App function to steal money from her.

The man directed her to deposit money into her Cash App account, which he then diverted out of the account, while reassuring her that she would get it back.

Her financial institution then called her and advised her that there were fraudulent charges on her account. She was directed to cancel her debit card, file a police report, and follow up with Cash App customer support.
