HEIGHTS – New K-9 Officer Loki, who will be working with Dearborn Heights Police Officer William Ruch, was sworn in by City Clerk Lynne Senia during the Aug. 25 city council meeting.
Dearborn Heights Police Chief Michael Guzowski said Loki, who is just over a year old, has been training hard to prepare for his new role.
“One of the great things about Loki is this K-9, and all of his equipment and training, were provided through charitable donations, so it was no cost to the city and no cost to our police department,” he said. “However, I’m sure everyone knows how great an asset a K-9 can be, whether in our schools, tracking bad guys, or finding evidence, K-9s, especially in my years of being an investigator, solve many cases and play a tremendous role in a police department.”
Mayor Mo Baydoun said not every city can say they have a K-9 officer, let alone two.
“This is something early on that we said we were going to support, so here Loki is, and thank you, chief, and don’t tell me you’re understaffed anymore, because there you are,” he said amid laughter.
