LINCOLN PARK — A woman having trouble with her cell phone service on July 9 called a number she thought would provide customer support, but which connected her with a scam artist who gleaned her bank account information to make unauthorized withdrawals.

Over the course of five days, she spoke to the representative, who asked her questions, including her bank account information. On July 14, the victim discovered unauthorized withdrawals, which she reported to her financial institution, who told her to file a police report to initiate a fraud investigation.

The victim said she has been victimized in the past in a similar manner.
