The council approved appointments to the city’s Beautification, Planning, Parks and Recreation, and Cable Commissions. Animal group event set for early fall
RIVERVIEW — The Precious Animal Welfare Society, better knows as P.A.W.S., will hold PAWS in the Park, starting at 11 a.m, Sept. 19 at Young Patriots Park. Group members Eve Howell and Kris Jordan thanked the City Council on Monday for sponsoring the event, which will include a dog walk, disc jockey, contests, event T-shirt, food, “Ask the Vet,” low-cost pet microchips, raffles and a children’s area. RIVERVIEW — A local animal rescue group has announced a new program meant to help keep pets in their family homes instead of in a shelter. Due to the poor economy, many people are finding it difficult to feed their animals and have been forced to give them up to local shelters and rescue groups, said P.A.W.S. of Michigan secretary Erin Beard. P.A.W.S. is a nonprofit, all-volunteer animal rescue organization that works in the Downriver area to help homeless animals find homes. Allen Park Caught in the act A 16-year-old Dearborn Heights boy was arrested for breaking into cars after an officer saw him acting suspiciously. The officer saw the boy looking into cars at 3:30 a.m. July 16 at the BP gas station, 15700 Southfield, and decided to follow him. Allen Park Doors taken A screen door and a fence gate were stolen from a house in the 14000 block of LeBlanc sometime between 5 p.m. March 18 and 4 p.m. March 21. The owner, who recently bought the house, did not find any pry marks on the front door or the side door, but a screen on a window on the rear of the house was bent slightly.
