Lincoln Park, MI, March 25, 2009 – Kristine Hahn of the Wayne County Michigan State University Extension Office will do a presentation titled ‘Basic Gardening 101’ at the Fort Visger Community Development Corporation office, 1635 Fort Street , Lincoln Park . The presentation will be at 6: 00 pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2009.
Kristine’s presentation will focus on gardening basics such as frost dates, selecting the site and improving soil. Resource materials will be provided as well.
The Fort Visger Community Development Corporation (CDC) is the cities of Ecorse, Lincoln Park , River Rouge as well as the Southwest Detroit zip code 48217. The Fort Visger CDC supports tree plantings, community clean-ups, youth programs, neighborhood revitalization and greenway projects. The Fort Visger CDC along the Lincoln Park Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is sponsors of the Fort Visger CDC Farmers Market.
The 2009 farmers markets will start Sunday, May 3rd and run to Sunday, October 25th with a special holiday market on Sunday, November 22nd .
This year’s market time will be 11 am – 4 pm. The farmers markets will have farm produce, flowers, plants, baked goods, food items and crafts.
The Fort Visger CDC Farmers Market has contributed to southeastern Michigan ’s local economy.
It has provided a livelihood for many farmers, specialty food vendors and crafters.
