The Fox Theatre celebrates the dog days of summer, as tickets go on sale for “The 101 Dalmatians Musical.” This classic family favorite comes to the stage for the first time this year, and is scheduled to play the Fox Theatre for seven performances, Nov. 17 to 22.
Based on the book by Dodie Smith, the musical features the creative talents of an award-winning creative team that includes four-time Tony Award winning director Jerry Zaks (“A Bronx Tale,” “Smokey Joe’s Café,” “Guys and Dolls”), acclaimed bookwriter/co-lyricist BT McNicholl (“Billy Elliot,” “Spamalot,” “The IT Girl”), and co-founder of the legendary rock band Styx, Dennis DeYoung. “The 101 Dalmatians Musical” is a quirky, upside-down view of the world, where the audience is allowed to see life from a dog’s point of view. ‘Legally Blonde The Musical’ comes to the Fisher
“Legally Blonde The Musical” makes its Detroit debut at the Fisher Theatre Oct. 15 to Nov. 1. Like the movie, Elle Woods is unique and optimistic – and she doesn’t take “no” for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more “serious,” Elle remakes her self and shows she has what it takes to go to Harvard Law School. Along the way, Elle discovers strengths she never knew she had.
During its first year on Broadway in 2007, “Legally Blonde The Musical” earned seven Tony Award nominations, 10 Drama Desk Award nominations, and an Outer Critics Circle Award. The chorus of the musical was honored by Actors’ Equity Association’s Advisory Committee on Chorus Affairs with the first ever ACCA Award. The musical also ranked in the top 10 list of the most requested Ticketmaster Arts and Theatre Events for 2007.
As on Broadway, Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell is the director and choreographer. Music and lyrics are by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and the book is by Heather Hach.
