Perennial plant exchange and Super Sunflower contest at Snow Branch Library on Sept. 19

August 29, 2009 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN – Two gardening events will be held at Snow Branch Library, 23950 Princeton, from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 19.

To participate, residents can dig up any perennials (plants that return every year), bulbs, herbs or seeds that they wish to swap. Take the items to the library and trade plants, information and ideas with other gardeners.

Plants should be labeled if possible. Books will also be available to help identify plants.

Beginning gardeners are invited to come, even without a plant to exchange. Many veteran gardeners will share advice, and perhaps a plant or two.

Also on Sept. 19 the library’s Super Sunflower contest will be held. Gardeners of all ages are invited to harvest their best sunflower plant and take it to the perennial plant exchange.

Contest winners will be announced at 3 p.m., with prizes being awarded for the tallest plant, largest diameter head, most blossoms and more. All contestants will receive a participation certificate.
For more information, call (313) 274-1780.
