MELVINDALE — A 33-year-old woman from the 3200 block of Whittaker has regained consciousness and is talking after being shot four to six times about 11 p.m. Aug. 13 while taking out trash.

A dark-colored car pulled into her driveway and someone fired shots at her as she was carrying the trash to the garage. Police found four casings from a semiautomatic handgun at the scene.

The woman was taken to Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center in Dearborn, where she was treated for multiple wounds to her left side — including her upper leg, arm, wrist and shoulder —and above her temple.

Police Chief Rick Cadez believes the shooter may be someone the victim knows.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at (313) 429-1070.

The victim’s 2-year-old daughter, who was in the house at the time, was released to a grandparent.
