ALLEN PARK – The front desk clerk at the Allen Park Motor Lodge, 14877 Southfield Road was robbed at gunpoint by two men late Saturday night.
The thieves escaped with $289 and 17 packs of cigarettes. It is not known whether they were on foot or in a vehicle.
The clerk said one of the suspects, a clean-shaven black man at least 6 feet 3 inches tall and wearing a black leather jacket and dark pants, walked into the lobby initially to ask about room rates. He then left, saying he would speak to his girlfriend.
The clerk said the first man re-entered the lobby with a shorter black male while the he was on the phone with a customer. The taller man served as a lookout near the door, while the other man jumped over the front desk counter.
The second man, described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with a mustache and a brown leather jacket, drew a large black handgun and demand money, the clerk said.
The clerk then gave him the cash. The second man then asked about a safe. When told there was none, he took the packs of cigarettes from behind the counter.
The two then left the lobby together and disappeared. The clerk reportedly took several minutes to collect his thoughts before calling the police.
Officers took fingerprint evidence from the cash drawer as well as surveillance video and have alerted other law enforcement officials.
