DEARBORN — Police are conducting a homicide investigation into the recent death of a 2-year-old girl.

Department officials said that on March 23, the girl was taken to Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center to be treated for head injuries. Due to the severity of the injuries she was subsequently transferred to Children’s Hopsital of Michigan, where she died March 26, police said.

They also said they wouldn’t be able to determine whether foul play was involved until they receive autopsy results, which could take weeks.

A local television station reported that the girl’s family disputed the homicide investigation and said that the girl fell ill after receiving four booster shots the day before she was hospitalized.
