The Dearborn Youth Symphony will hold auditions for the 2010-11 season from 4-9 p.m. May 24 and May 25 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.
To schedule an audition go to dearbornyouthsymphony.org or call (313) 943-2354, ext. 5538. Walk-in auditions are subject to availability. Auditions last approximately five minutes and are private. Musicians should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time to warm up. Percussionists should be prepared to exhibit ability on several percussion instruments and be able to sight read.
Placement within DYS is based on tone quality, musicianship, sight-reading ability, listening skills/aural acuity, and attitude.
The DYS rehearses at the Ford Center Monday evenings and presents three concerts each season.
The DYS — sponsored by the Dearborn Recreation Department — was formed in 1975 to provide young performers with symphonic ensemble experience and to foster interest in instrumental music. The DYS has become an integral step to greater musical achievement for many young musicians in the area. It consists of a symphony and concert orchestra, and two flute choirs.
Membership includes musicians, ages 8 to 21 years from over 25 communities in southeast Michigan.
