‘Jazz on the Ave’ summer concert series showcases downtown east Dearborn
DEARBORN – The East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (EDDDA) has partnered with V98.7HD2 and WWJ-AM 950 to present a free summer concert series on Wednesday evenings in July and August. The “Jazz on the Ave” outdoor concerts will be held at Dearborn City Hall Park at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Schaefer Road.
“This is a perfect opportunity for the public to stroll around our historic downtown, visit the Arab American National Museum, check out the many culturally rich businesses and ethnic restaurants, and then relax to some of the area’s best jazz artists,” EDDDA Executive Director Michael Bewick said.
The concert series, featuring locally and nationally acclaimed jazz musicians, also is being co-sponsored by Oakwood Healthcare System; the Dearborn Community Fund; and Times-Herald, Press & Guide and Metro Times newspapers.
Scheduled to appear on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. are:
July 14 — Alexander Zonjic & Friends
July 21 — Modern Tribe featuring Charles & Gwen Scales
July 28 — Rayse Biggs Band
Aug. 11 — Thornetta Davis Band
Aug. 18 — Kimmie Horne Show
Aug. 26 — The Brothers Groove
The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and stake out a good spot. Nearby restaurants will be open as well. Along with regular dining services, many of the restaurants offer carryout for those who wish to have a picnic while watching a concert.
“On behalf of more than 180 local businesses, we look forward to welcoming everyone to east Dearborn’s warm, inviting and uniquely global marketplace,” Bewick said.
