Armed robber gets thousands from drug store

August 14, 2010 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

LINCOLN PARK — Thousands of dollars in cash were taken Monday during the armed robbery of Walgreens, 1765 Fort St.

About 7:15 p.m. a man approached a cashier and paid for a greeting card. While she was completing the transaction, the man lifted his shirt and showed the butt end of a gun and told her, “Put the money in a bag, and hurry up.” Frightened by the incident, she complied with the demand and emptied her register into a white store plastic bag and walked away from her station.

The man grabbed the bag and walked out. A witness tried to stop him, but the robber allegedly pointed a gun at him before running away south along Fort Street.

The robber is described as a black man in his mid-30s about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build weighing under 200 pounds. He was wearing all dark clothing, a dark-colored baseball hat and sunglasses.

The incident was captured on surveillance video.
