Stray dog attacks children

ALLEN PARK – A group of children was attacked in their front yard by a stray dog last Sunday near Outer Drive and the Southfield Freeway.

A television interview Tuesday by WJBK-TV spoke with the Taylor family, two of whose children – including a 9-year-old daughter, Kiara – were attacked recently while playing outside.

“We don’t know what kind of dog it was,” Allen Park ordinance Officer Ruthann Kieltyka said Thursday. “The only description the girls gave was that it was a brown or black dog with no collar.”

The dog got away after biting the children on the arms, legs, foot and wrist. The incident comes just two months after a pit bull bit another child in the family and one month after a dog killed a child in Lincoln Park.

“All I’m going to do is patrol the area more and, if I find a dog, bring it in,” Kieltyka said.

Public Safety Director Dean Tamsen did not respond to messages left Thursday seeking comment on the department’s response to the incident.
