Society seeking teams, volunteers for 2011 Relay for Life

September 24, 2010 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

HEIGHTS — The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Dearborn Heights needs volunteers to help organize and plan the society’s signature event as well as teams to walk in the event. The relay will be held April 30 to May 1, 2011, at Chircop Field, behind Pardee Elementary School, 4650 Pardee.

The society will host an informational meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Caroline Kennedy Library, 24590 George, for people interested in volunteering or walking.

Relay For Life offers everyone in the community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out overnight and take turns walking the track in an effort to raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer. Teams can be made up of family, friends, co-workers, schools or community groups.

Volunteers help plan family activities and entertainment and oversee event details. The event includes team fundraisers, a luminaria ceremony and a cancer survivor’s victory lap.

Organizers invite those seeking more information. Stop by anytime between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Oct 19 to learn more about Relay For Life of Dearborn Heights and enjoy complimentary doughnuts and cider. Bring a friend and be entered in a drawing for a gift. The event is open to the public. Now is the time to become a part of your community in the fight against cancer and to help “Create a World with More Birthdays!”
