Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. (center) stands next to 10-year-old Ezzedean Beydoun on Nov. 3 at the United Way Torch Lighting ceremony in front of City Hall. Beydoun flipped the switch to light the torch, marking the start of the city’s annual United Way fundraising drive. Beydoun, who attends Snow Elementary School where he enjoys science class, was specially selected to serve as this year’s torchlighting child. Also on hand are Councilwoman Suzanne Sareini (left); Beydoun’s mother, Mariam; his sister, Jehna; and Councilmmen George Darany and Mark Shooshanian. Historically, city employees have been among the top contributers in Wayne County to United Way, which helps those in need throughout the city and metro Detroit. The torch will remain on display in front of City Hall for about a month. For more information on donating to the United Way call (313) 226-9200 or go to www.uwcs.org.
