MELVINDALE — A 50-year-old resident was arrested after allegedly attempting to rob several women in a vehicle parked outside the Crossroads Bar, 24704 Oakwood, shortly after 1 a.m. last Sunday.
Clyde Peterson allegedly approached the vehicle asking for change, then stuck a piece of wood inside a backseat passenger door of the vehicle, preventing the occupant from closing it. He then demanded her purse and said if she did not comply, he would kill everyone in the car. Peterson allegedly produced a folding pocket knife measuring 3 1/2 to 4 inches long.
Another of the occupants escaped from the vehicle and ran into the bar for help. Two men inside the bar chased and tackled Peterson and held him until police arrived.
When two officers responded after receiving a call about a man with a knife fighting people at the bar, they saw the two men holding the suspect on the street outside the bar.
Peterson was charged with four counts of assault with intent to rob while armed and bond was set at $50,000. A preliminary examination of the evidence against him is scheduled for 9 a.m. tomorrow.
