Citywide task force meets to plan future

November 22, 2010 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN — A community task force of local community members and business representatives is holding its third in a series of meetings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the City Council chambers, 13615 Michigan Ave., regarding the task force’s Vision 2016 plan.

The other two meetings took place Nov. 18 and Monday.

The vision plan outlines a five-year proposal to get Dearborn back on track. Some of the most notable pieces to the plan include cutting city personnel by 25 to 30 percent to reduce expenditures by $60 million; maxing out the property tax millage – currently at 13.62 mills – at 15 mills and then eventually 18.5 to 20 mills to increase revenue; and consolidating regional services.

Other focuses include improving the city’s public image to draw in residents and businesses, as well as how to improve administrative efficiencies.
