Thief may have broken into apartment to get car keys

November 22, 2010 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

SOUTHGATE — The sound of a broken window in an apartment complex proved to be a signal for a car theft early last Sunday.

A resident in the 15200 of Village Park Drive overheard glass breaking in the apartment next door about 3 a.m. and called police after he saw two men get into that apartment’s residents’ royal blue mid-1990s Ford Taurus and drive off.

The apartment residents were not home during the break-in, police said. The caller believes the thief entered the apartment to grab the keys to the car before driving off.

The man who got into the car is described as black, in his mid-20s or early 30s, about 6 feet 1 inch or 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 210 pounds.

Police found no other damage besides the window and no signs of foul play inside the apartment.
