Senior Services offer winter activities

DEARBORN – The city’s Senior Services is offering a lineup of classes and special events at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave. For more information about any of the programs, call (313) 943-2412.

Chair Exercise Class – Classes meet at 10 a.m. Monday and Friday The fee is $5 per month per class. Fees are due on the first of the month. No refund will be issued.

Dearborn Senior Walking Club – The club meets from 1:30 to 3 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Check-in is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Walk the indoor track. Membership is open to Dearborn senior citizens. Members pay $1 for each visit. Passholders are free.

Arthritis Exercise Class – The class meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Advanced registration is required. Exercises are gentle, and joint-safe and are specifically designed for people with arthritis. The movements will help relieve stiffness and decrease arthritis pain. The low-impact class can be taken either sitting or standing. The fee is $7 per month and is due the first of the month. No refunds will be issued.

Senior Swim Classes – Classes meet at 9 and 10 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Advanced registration is required and class sizes are limited.

Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Glucose Checks – The Health Department offers free blood pressure check for seniors from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursdays. Cholesterol and glucose checks are available for a fee of $5 each.

Mid-Winter Pinochle Tournament – The annual Winter Pinochle Tournament begins at 11 a.m. Jan. 31. The $7 fee includes pizza, snacks and prizes. Space is limited to 24 players. Payment and registration is due by Jan. 28.

City of Dearborn Senior Citizen Transportation – The city’s Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation serves residents of Dearborn age 60 years of age or older. Seniors are required to schedule trips at least four days in advance. Transportation services provides curb to curb service. The service area is within the city limits. The fee is $1 one way or $2 round trip. The service is available from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All vehicles are wheelchair assessable.
