A day at the park

Hundreds of dead fish were found last week in this stretch of the Ecorse Creek at Council Point Park in Lincoln Park, where three boys stop Thursday afternoon to check out the remaining fish and other wildlife. Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials said in published reports that the fish likely were gizzard shad, a member of the herring family, which also have turned up dead in the St. Clair and Detroit rivers. Most of the dead fish dissipated or were eaten by ducks by week’s end. Contamination is not being considered a cause for the die-off.
