City posts snow shoveling rules

January 8, 2011 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN – Residents can help get the roads plowed faster this winter by moving parked vehicles off the street whenever 3 inches or more of snow is predicted to fall.

When the city declares a snow emergency, residents must remove their parked vehicles from the street or they could be ticketed and the vehicles could be towed. Police do not issue warnings.

Generally, residents may park vehicles back on the street once the street has been plowed if no further heavy snowfall is expected. Crews may return to clear roads again if conditions require it.

Residents can check to see if a snow emergency has been declared via any of the following methods: www.cityofdearborn.org, CDTV, snow emergency hotline at (313) 943-2444, broadcast TV and radio stations, Twitter.com or Nixle.com messages, and outdoor emergency warn-ing sirens.

Driveway aprons may become blocked due to snow plowing. City crews cannot go back to clear blocked driveways.

After any significant snowfall, residents must remove snow and ice from walkways within 24 hours.

Snow should not be discarded on another person’s property without their permission.

Snow should not be piled or discarded on any public property, street right of way, sidewalk, alley or parking lot.

During a major snowstorm residents may hold their trash and recycling for a week and put out carts again at the curb when the snow has cleared.
