Dearborn Goodfellows treasurer Karl Fava (back row, right) receives a check for $284.34 from Whitmore-Bolles Early Childhood program coordinator Phoebe Perry (back row, left) and students from the school.

Teachers at Whitmore-Bolles Elementary School in Dearborn have turned “casual day” into cash. The teachers donate money for the privilege of wearing casual clothing on Fridays.

The students in the Early Childhood program, taught by Phoebe Perry, started the personal collection program this year. The children collect $1 from teachers and non-instructional staff so they may take a casual day on Fridays.

The teachers generated $284.34 this fall. Through the coordination of school secretary Julie Wilson, the school donated the money to this year’s Dearborn Goodfellows drive.

“Every teacher works for the benefit of every student,” Principal Jill Chochol said. “This is one additional way we can help others in our community. We’re glad we can help.”

The school is at 21501 Whitmore, near Monroe and Outer Drive. For more information call (313) 827-6800.
