I am honored to be the recipient of the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year Award for 2011.
But, was I surprised to receive this award? No. As with everything in my life I set out to do, I visualize it, it becomes my reality, and I achieve it. I told myself, “I will win this award.”
Even after my first meeting with the chamber, I told other members my intentions are to win, and that is exactly what I did. I am honored. I am humbled, but am I surprised? No. It is not about the award itself; it’s about achieving anything you put your mind to.
For example, my business, Banners Nationwide, started off as just an idea three years ago, I thought of it, it became my reality and now it is my actuality. Bringing my idea to fruition has made my business a success.
But again, it’s not about the business or the award … it’s about bringing ones ideas to life. If I apply this to everything I do, I will “win” a lot more than award.
If you are a business owner, then you know just how imperative it is to be passionate about your business, to submerge yourself into creating more business and improving yourself and your service’s, daily. In tough economic times it is no longer an option for business owners to sit and wait behind a desk or a counter for a customer to come in. Business owners must go out into the world and “acquire” customers, accounts and alliances. Collaboration is the only way a company can make headway, and as marketing director for Banners Nationwide
(www.bannersnationwide.com), I try to turn each customer, account and alliance into a friend.
There is a secret to all of this, and that secret is: I like people! This particular attribute is my saving grace. I can’t add or subtract to save my soul. I have terrible organizational skills, I am not a great bookkeeper nor do I like to file anything. The only thing I have to offer is my gift of gab.
I serve my community in many ways. Volunteer work, aiding and abetting in pranks and practical jokes, a radio show that promotes inspiration and community activism, and for fun on a cable television show with Siham Jaafar and Jennifer Giering as my cohorts, oops!… I mean co-hosts called “Off the Cuff” on Detroit Public Television.
Through it all and with all I do, Banners Nationwide is proud to be a member of the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce and Dearborn Chamber Connect. My gracious peers in the chamber are not only pleasing to the eye but also pleasing to the soul. I hope to continue to help the Dearborn Chamber in its efforts in creating a fantastic organization that benefits all the chamber members and the community as a whole.
I know I have benefited deeply with my involvement and alliance to the chamber and the surrounding communities. The relationships I have “acquired” are invaluable, and I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with my friends every day.
