Every year since 1963, the president of the United States has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the economic well-being of America. In 2011, National Small Business Week will honor the estimated 27.2 million small businesses in America. Small businesses are major contributors to the strength of the American economy. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business. They also create 60 to 80 percent of new jobs in the country. Small businesses drive innovation, create 21st century jobs and increase U.S. competitiveness.
“Small business owners and employees across America are proving their resiliency as they continue to drive the nation out of recession through economic growth and job creation,” said SBA Administrator Karen Mills. “National Small Business Week gives us an opportunity to honor their achievements and the spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation and determination that makes them the engine of our economy and our nation’s economic recovery.”
As part of National Small Business Week, the Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce will be recognizing local businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries. The recognition will be held at their annual Michigan Week Celebration on May 17. The event is sponsored by Oakwood Healthcare. The luncheon will be at Warren Valley Golf and Banquet Center and is $25.00 per person. If your business is celebrating an anniversary and would like to be recognized at this event attended by local business owners, city officials, and residents, please contact the chamber office at (313) 274-7480.
