Oakwood Common hosts daytime adult education classes

April 16, 2011 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN — Dearborn Public Schools will offer daytime classes for mosaics, stained glass and watercolor acrylic painting beginning this month at Oakwood Common.

The four classes scheduled are Watercolor Acrylic painting, with six sessions from 9 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. beginning April 28; Stained Glass introductory lecture from 1 to 3 p.m. June 8; Renaissance Mosaics from 1 to 3 p.m. June 15 and 22; and Switchable Nightlight (stained glass) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 29.

The enrichment classes are part of a renewed partnership between Oakwood Common and Dearborn Public Schools. Classes will be held in the craft and Rotunda rooms of Oakwood Common, located at 16351 Rotunda.

“Oakwood Common has a beautiful and centrally located community to host and add to the variety of classes we offer,” said Ron Gutkowski, assistant superintendent and director of Adult and Community Education for Dearborn Public Schools. “Our enrichment classes are typically held during the evening hours at local schools. Having the space availability at Oakwood Common for daytime classes is a real bonus.”

Oakwood Common’s Activity Director Delfina Mauricio said its residents also will benefit from having access to the classes.

“We provide lots of activities and special events for residents throughout the year, and these classes add to the variety we can offer,” Mauricio said. “We look forward to welcoming others, who may be unfamiliar with the beautiful facilities we have available for classes like these.”
