During a celebration on Thursday for Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French Army during the Battle of Pueblo in 1862, students at the Advanced Technology Academy displayed projects they have been working on since September designed to help them learn about Mexican culture. The projects, which have been shown to teachers and parents, included paintings, drawings and ceramic arts. Since April, fourth-graders worked on a mural designed to show the history of Ford Motor Co. dating to 1896. During the celebration (above) second-graders from Lucinda Lawrence’s music class performed a Mexican hat dance, while Los Primos, an entertainment duo comprising Victor Martinez and Alberto Rodriguez, provided music for the students and the teachers.
