Every year since 1963, the president of the United States has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the economic well-being of America. In honor of National Small Business Week, the Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce in May recognized this special impact made by outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners on a local level. This year, National Small Business Week honored the estimated 27.2 million small businesses in America. Small businesses are major contributors to the strength of the American economy. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business. They also create 60 to 80 percent of new jobs in the country. Small businesses drive innovation, create 21st century jobs and increase U.S. competitiveness.

At its Michigan Week Luncheon May 17, the Dearborn Heights Chamber honored its members celebrating milestone anniversaries with a certificate of achievement which they received from Mayor Dan Paletko and Chamber President Daryl Jamieson. It has become a valued, annual tradition to honor members celebrating milestone anniversaries. The event was sponsored by Oakwood Healthcare.

The following members received special recognition: Gary Kearns from Kearns Brothers Inc., celebrating 25 years in business; Steve Henry from Leader Printing and Mailing, celebrating 30 years; Mike Roy from Ford-Tel Marathon, celebrating 40 years; Marc Soble from Tel-Joy Shopping Center, celebrating 50 years; Larry Dragan, owner of Stan’s Garage, celebrating 70 years; and Jeff Redmon from Dearborn Federal Savings Bank, celebrating 75 years. Unable to attend were: Dearborn Heights TIFA office, celebrating 25 years; PAC Federal Credit Union, celebrating 35 years; Tom Waligorski Roofing, celebrating 40 years; Midway Golf, celebrating 60 years; and Dearborn Area Board of Realtors, celebrating 85 years.
