DEARBORN – Police continue to search for a man who injured a 79-year-old Dearborn resident in a hit-and-run at 5:30 p.m. June 26.
The suspect, who fled down an alley after hitting the man, is described by witnesses as a 30-year-old white male driving a light green four-door Ford Escort.
Surveillance footage of the collision shows the victim walking east on the crosswalk on Warren Avenue at Freda when he was hit by the car, which was heading east on Warren to southbound Freda.
The video shows the suspect then drove around the victim, stopped to look at him, and then drove off.
“The assistance of the community will be crucial in helping to locate this driver if he chooses not to contact us himself,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement. “We are fortunate that this victim did not suffer even more severe injuries.”
There has been no change in the victim’s condition, Dearborn Police Sgt. Douglas Topolski said, adding that the victim likely will be in the hospital for a few more weeks.
