Karl Fava

DEARBORN — Karl Fava of Dearborn is the Henry Ford Community College Foundation’s Distinguished Volunteer for 2011.

This designation was part of HFCC’s participation in the Nov. 17 National Philanthropy Day Banquet, during which Fava was honored, along with other distinguished volunteers from southeastern Michigan nonprofit organizations.

Fava has been a member of the HFCC Foundation Board of Directors since 1998. He has served as chairman for a two-year term and headed up the Foundation’s Executive, Nominating and Finance committees.

“Karl has been an outstanding Foundation director,” Foundation Executive Director John Lewandowski said. “In addition to his committee work, he has played an important role in obtaining several major contributions for HFCC, most recently for the Science Center Campaign.”

Fava is founder, owner and president of Business Financial Consultants Inc., a Dearborn firm specializing in financial, tax, valuation and management of closely held businesses and their owners. A certified public accountant, his previous experience includes working for KMPG Peat Marwick and Deloitte & Touche public accounting firms. He resides in Dearborn with his wife, Doreen, and their two daughters.

Fava follows in the footsteps of previous HFCC Foundation Distinguished Volunteers Gary Kuhlmann (2009) and the Adray family (2010).

The Foundation was established in 1982 to raise and acceptable charitable support for the college and during the ensuing 29 years has raised nearly $14 million for scholarships, buildings and technology and new academic programs and initiatives.

Held each year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Detroit Chapter, the NPD Banquet is the largest gathering of nonprofit staff and volunteers in the area.
