New day in court set for parking lot shooting

LINCOLN PARK — The man charged with the murder of a man in a Fort Street parking lot in April will have another day in court. Shannon Maurice Henderson, 34, will appear before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge James Callahan beginning March 13, charged with the murder of 32-year-old Adrian Deshaun Bell.

In October a hung jury failed to reach a verdict after three days of testimony that recounted a long day of drinking and a confrontation between Henderson and Bell several hours before Bell was shot. Investigators said Bell suffered three gunshot wounds — two in the chest — while in a parking lot adjacent to White Castle, 2115 Fort St., at approximately 12:42 a.m. April 24. Bell was transported to Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center and died soon after.

Henderson is charged with first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence, along with felony use of a firearm and being a fourth-time habitual offender.

Following the October mistrial, a new jury was seated last month, and a preliminary hearing was held Wednesday. Last week, a motion by defense at torney Terri L. Johnson to reduce Henderson’s bond was denied. A motion was allowed in November for Johnson to represent Henderson, replacing Arlene F. Woods, who presented the defense case in the previous trial.
