LINCOLN PARK — A Wyandotte man who allegedly tried to steal $800 worth of instant lottery tickets faces felony charges of breaking and entering and assaulting a police officer after a Dec. 23 arraignment in 25th District Court.

Wayne County prosecutors said that Joshua Shane Shipman, 32, broke into D & B Market, 1086 Dix, at about 5:30 a.m. Dec. 21. An alarm quickly brought responding officers, one of whom reported seeing Shipman inside the store. According to police reports, Shipman ran from the store down an alley, instant lottery tickets falling out of his pockets and shopping bags he dropped before being caught in a backyard in the 200 block of Montie.

Shipman tried to escape again, and allegedly assaulted one of the arresting officers before being handcuffed.

The store’s owner told police that, including the lottery tickets, cash and merchandise valued at about $2,100 was taken.

A preliminary examination is scheduled for Tuesday.
