ALLEN PARK – An outside lawyer has been hired to investigate complaints made against City Clerk Michael Mizzi by a city employee.

The city council voted Tuesday to hire John M. Barr of Ypsilanti-based Barr, Anhut and Associates P.C. to investigate the complaints by one city staff member levied against Mizzi.

The nature of the charges were not specified.

City Attorney Chris Forsyth said an outside attorney would be appropriate “to protect everyone involved.”

“I think it will be relatively inexpensive to the city, but I think this is something that should be reviewed and investigated by special council,” he said.

Calls to Human Resources Manager Don Wood were not returned by press time.
