Brightly Twisted
Greg Stemas/Tammy Bourque-Stemas
23400 Michigan Avenue
Dearborn, MI 48124

For the better part of a decade, self-taught artist Greg Stemas produced tie-dye out of his basement, selling his uniquely beautiful designs at art fairs around the state. The work served as a means of supplemental income for his teaching career also providing a haven for indulging his creative instincts and innate understanding of color. In 2006, embarking on a new chapter in his life, he welcomed a new set of hands into his colorful world: Tammy Bourque. She fell in love with the process and quickly developed a vision for the businesses future. Seeing the extraordinary skills Stemas possessed with color composition inspired her to seek out high-quality, fashion-conscious materials; a step that dramatically expanded the opportunities and sales. In 2007, Bourque became a full time partner. By 2008, the company was selling hand-dyed scarves wholesale on a national level, gaining an account with Nordstrom department store within the first three months. Bourque and Stemas continue to promote innovation and authenticity within their rapidly growing business. Their hand dyeing is a combination of vibrant contrast, subtle compositions and essential elements all creatively fused together on canvases of fine pima cotton, modal and rayon garments. The result is unique and completely unlike traditional dyeing commonly seen. Today, Brightly Twisted produces their signature scarves, women’s apparel and home-wares for over five hundred boutiques globally. Other influential accounts include Intermix, Fred Segal, and Neiman Marcus. They also recently launched an online store and are excitedly preparing to open their first Brightly Twisted boutique in northern Michigan.
