DEARBORN — The Dearborn Public Schools 2012-13 calendar is available and includes vacation days and testing dates.
Several factors determine the district calendar including state mandates, a county-wide common calendar, community needs, professional development obligations, and days decided through negotiations between the Board of Education and the Dearborn Federation of Teachers.
The district calendar includes 13 late start dates (two less than this year) that will be used for professional development and school improvement. Feedback from staff has determined that the late start dates have been helpful in providing teachers and principals time to meet, collaborate with colleagues, work on school improvement goals and improve student instruction.
The first of the 13 late start dates will occur on Sept. 19, and will continue on various Wednesdays throughout the year.
Also included on the calendar are the dates of MEAP testing and MME/ACT testing, tests that students are required to take. Vacations, appointments, or other events should not be scheduled on these testing dates, school officials said.
The 2012-13 calendar will be posted on the district’s website and can be accessed by going to http://dearbornschools.org/district/about-us/district-calendar.
