DEARBORN — To celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and Older Americans Month, Oakwood Common invites the public to join its annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day event May 30.
This year’s theme is “Get Moving … Start Improving!”
The day’s events will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Oakwood Common lobby with a Community Walk-A-Thon. Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. is scheduled to lead walkers along the scenic paths that surround the retirement community, at 16351 Rotunda in Dearborn.
The walk will be followed by a special proclamation issued by O’Reilly and the announcement of Oakwood Common’s Biggest Loser Challenge. Light refreshments and prize drawings also will be available.
At 10:30 a.m. Lois Sczomak, a registered dietician with Oakwood Healthcare System, will present “Eating Well on a Diabetic Diet,” and at 11 a.m. Carla Schneider of Oakwood Corporate Services will talk about the Oakwell program.
The public is invited to attend any or all of the morning activities and presentations.
