Business, political leaders support breast cancer awareness in advance of annual fundraiser

DEARBORN — The Oakwood Women’s Healthcare Classic is turning 20 years old this year.

Presented by Drs. Harris, Birkhill, Wang, Songe and Associates P.C. and Karen Wilson Smithbauer, the Women’s Healthcare Classic returns to the Dearborn Country Club and the Tournament Players Club of Michigan on June 11. In addition to lunch, golf, a silent auction, strolling food stations and a 20th anniversary dinner, the event will feature guest speaker Suzy Farbman, author of “Godsigns: Health, Hope and Miracles, My Journey
to Recovery.”

The event generates funds to help fight breast cancer. It has raised about $4.7 million during its 19-year history. Contributions help the Oakwood Foundation fund free mammograms and genetic risk assessment and counseling, pay for mammopads to help relieve discomfort during testing, purchase wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment and provide transportation to women undergoing treatment.
