MELVINDALE – “Interim” tags were dropped from the city’s police and fire chiefs during a Police and Fire Commission meeting June 12.

The commission approved Chad Hayse and Steven Densmore as Police and Fire chiefs respectively, according to published reports. Both have held the positions on an interim basis since January, when former Police Chief Rick Cadez and former Fire Chief Dan Wilhelm retired. Hayse was fired in March from his position, but rehired two days later when it was ruled that the Police and Fire Commission did not have the authority to fire him.

That night, the city council met in a special session to overturn the commission’s decision and reinstate Hayse to his interim position.
