DEARBORN — Oktoberfest is coming to west Dearborn from 5 to 11 p.m. Oct. 5 with entertainment, food, fun and a sense of community.
Steve Guibord, of the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority, said the first-time event, hosted by the WDDDA, is a way to market and rebrand west Dearborn.
“We have two unique cities within a city,” Guibord said. “Where west Dearborn has moved toward an entertainment district (and) the night life, we are getting people out and marketing the district.”
Oktoberfest, a collaborative effort by the WDDDA, the city of Dearborn, Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce, and local business owners, will take place at the West Village Commons Plaza on West Village Drive, two blocks east of Military Avenue.
The event features activities for children such as face painting, chalk drawing, bean bag toss and balloon animals; activities for adults such as a Vegas tent, which includes gaming tables, along with food and live music by the Junction Groove, the Infatuations and What Happens In Vegas.
Guibord said the city has the Dearborn Homecoming in August but he would like to see other events that get people out, raise money and have a sense of community.
“I think it is something that is important for the folks in west Dearborn to have local events and not have to go elsewhere in other communities for their social events,” Guibord said. “We are hoping it will be successful and we can continue this on an annual basis.”
The event costs $5 at the door and partial proceeds go to charities. For more information go to www.dearbornwestonline.com or www.facebook.com/events/241836735938423.
