City of Dearborn employees continued their tradition of contributing to United Way, which helps those in need throughout Dearborn and metropolitan Detroit. The annual fund drive was kicked off Oct. 9 at City Hall by Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. Zhera Alsalehi, from Snow Elementary School, served as this year’s United Way torchlighting child. She represented those who benefit from the organizations supported by United Way. O’Reilly and Shannon Proctor, director of Corporate Relations for United Way for Southeastern Michigan, joined Alsalehi as she flipped the switch to light the torch. Also attending the ceremony were Alsalehi’s family members and her teacher, Allison Dumke. For more information on donating to the United Way, call 313-226-9200 or go to www.liveunitedsem.org.
